Board Comparison FAQ

Common questions about comparing fishing SUPs and choosing the right board

The comparison tool supports up to 3 boards side by side. Select at least 2 boards to see the comparison table. You can swap boards at any time by removing one and adding another from the full catalog of reviewed boards.
Each board is rated across 5 categories: Stability, Fishability, Durability, Portability, and Value. All ratings are on a 1 to 5 scale based on real on-water testing. The tool highlights the winner in each category and calculates an overall score.
Not necessarily. The best board depends on your priorities. A board with a lower overall score might win in the categories that matter most to you. For example, if portability is your top concern, an inflatable with a 4.0 overall might serve you better than a hard shell rated 4.7 that requires a truck to transport.
Inflatable SUPs pack into a backpack, are lighter, and are easier to store. Hard shell SUPs offer better rigidity, performance, and durability for mounting accessories. Inflatables suit apartment dwellers and sedan drivers. Hard shells suit anglers with garage storage and a truck or roof rack.
Width is the single most important spec for fishing stability. Boards 33 inches and wider provide a solid casting platform. Dedicated fishing SUPs run 36 to 40 inches wide. Every extra inch of width significantly improves your confidence when casting, fighting fish, and managing gear on the water.
